I thought it would be helpful if I posted my full setup. Since there are so few guides on the internet, I’ve decided to share some information based on my experience. We decided to purchase an after-market, 3rd-party, external antenna as well. Thankfully, my friend had an extra one and, though he wouldn’t sell it to me, I allowed him to set it up in my apartment. There is a supply bottleneck on the hotspots and it’s impossible to build your own. There are only about 18,000 hotspots today. Transmitting this signal and improving coverage in your area allows you to mine Helium tokens (HNT). Helium provides decentralized wireless data services via LongFi, which is essentially a low-bandwidth WiFi signal transmitted via radio waves. It’s a relatively-new blockchain using a unique Proof-of-Coverage (PoC) protocol.
